NOTE: Camping is only allowed within 1/2 mile from the road. Also, there is a narrow bridge at the beginning of this road with only a 13'4" height (Bridge Rd just before Virgin River). Do not attempt if you are pulling a 5th Wheel.
Do not camp here. Signs everywhere say no camping. The road is extremely rough, my all wheel drive got stuck in the rocks going up the hill.
It’s illegal and apparently police have been attempting to keep people out for months. Campers are destroying the landscape by camping there. All those camping pull offs? They used to have vegetation. If you want to avoid a fine and not be a dick, go somewhere else. We were pulled up on by police and fined 160 each for being there. There are better spots down in Virgin to disperse camp where it’s legal (literally 20 additional minutes away you’ll survive)
Do not camp here. There are spots that look like campsites, however police come by frequently and will ask you to leave or fine you. Try finding a spot in Virgin if you are looking to stay outside of Zion.
There are clear signs that say camping is not allowed within a half mile of the road. There are many tempting pullouts but none are legal: they are too close to the road and they are marked with No Camping signs. Some have been ripped out - you’ll notice them in the brush nearby. Police came around 10:30 and told everyone not to come back the following night or else there would be tickets.
A nice place to camp but everyone off the road got kicked out by the police. Apparently you can only camp 0.5 miles from the road.
We were here for 5 days and it was the best spot we’ve stayed in on our whole trip. It got busier on Friday and Saturday night but not too noisy. It’s super close to Zion entrance and has the best view. Felt very safe. If you’re struggling going up the first hill, DO NOT, try to go up the second hill. Very washed out and sharp rocks pointing up. Everyone was super nice that we met and it felt very safe. We also got full bars LTE service with at&t. Great place.
Some pullouts marked with no camping but our spot was great
Do NOT camp here! This specific spot is still Rockville land, not blm. You must go to the top for blm camping. We found out because the police were shaking down people. 2 travelers got their vehicle searched and arrested for having drinks while camping here. We were terrified watching this and then the police came over to us. Thankfully they didnt hassle us, but they informed us this is NOT a place to camp.
The views are great and it’s pretty spacious so you can have a spot all to your own. Only drawback is the road is pretty rough, we had a 4x4 and made it up but definitely wouldn’t recommend cars lower to ground or RV’s without clearance. Drive slow.
We set up camp here with our 27’ RV and 2 young children. There are a couple of sites right off the paved road that are easy to get to and level. We opted to head farther up the dirt road and it pushed the limits of our RV, but we were able to get a great site with great 360 degree views. Awesome stargazing. Very quiet, as you’re way off the main roads. We realized in the morning that there was a lot of broken glass at our site, but luckily it was not near out tires and no one got cut. There were “no camping” signs around, but we were one of at least 4 families camping in this area. Good space between sites. Would come again.
The second hill gets pretty rocky so only attempt if your vehicle has the clearance, but the best camp spots are past that big hill. The lower section seems to fill up each night. After climbing to the top, we took the first turnoff road on the left and there are a few campsites to choose from. We stayed two nights and nobody else even came down the road.
lots of space for cars and tents at each pull out. Watch out for the second uphill, it gets very rocky and some big rivits in the road so I recommend if you have a smaller car like a Subaru Outback or Impreza to not go past the 2nd big uphill.
20 min from Zion Visitor Center. Drove up the dirt road and camped at the top of the first hill. We were the only ones our 1st night, but on the 2nd night there were 5 other cars (everyone was quiet tho!). Hot and dusty, but the sunsets and views are awesome! *Get there early to claim a spot next to a hill- gets windy at night.
Very easy to get to out of Rockville, paved road until a small stretch of dirt road. Pulled off at first site at night and woke up to beautiful canyon valley surrroundings, a bit dusty and some trash but overall not terrible
Awesome free camping! A bit dusty, but easy to get to in any vehicle. No water, no toilets, but great car camping otherwise.
The night sky is beautiful here. Very quite. Not crowded. No shade. Take the road slow gets bumpy and later rocky. Overall good spot. Easy to find. Stayed here one night on 06/13/20
Amazing night sky close to Rockville and Grafton ghost town.
