Great spot

Super close to town and easy to get to. The drive looks a lot scarier from down where you camp as you see everyone come and go down the road, but our rwd transit made it fine in both the summer and winter. Easy access to the river where you can see the occasional rafter go by or just revive yourself by taking a blast of cold water to the face. Spots are numbered and there are some fire pits that you can hike to as well. We worked from here for a week or so with the service getting better the farther south of the area you go.

Follow reviews with gps to correct area..

Great camping space. Fairly private. Very bumpy and could be difficult for some. I made it down and back up the gravel road leading to the spots in my AWD Prius with minimal bottoming out. You can see the tunnel that they send you to from some of the spots so you can see cars drive pst at night but it’s not loud at night. During the day you hear the OHV area so be aware of that tho.

Great site

Here are the actual coordinates: 38.868562,-106.147364

This will take you to the entry point where you drive down to the camp site.

Road definitely very rutted but I managed just fine in my 28ft RV. The road isn’t very long so if you can handle some rocking back and forth for a few minutes it’s okay worth it.

Nice and clean. Even has a campground host. I had good reception - 3 bars 4G with ATT.

Don’t follow Google to GPS coordinates!

Note that this is on the WEST side of the river! The gps coords took two parties to the east side of the river. Nice sites, river is not rught next to all sites but within 100 or so feet. You an see other campers but sites are 100+ feet apart so you still feel like you have some privacy, you just can’t be too loud at night. Fire pits/grill grates. We got there on a Wednesday late afternoon in June and there were only two sites left.

Beautiful views

Right by the river and the campground host was awesome! The people in Buena Vista were kinda rude though so that was sad but the nature made up for it once we got away from the people. The river is stunning and you can wind up the mountains for more place to camp for FREE. A bunch of people were riding quads and side by sides all day and some of the night. The drive through the mountains was gorgeous

River Access & Wonderful Views

Private and beautiful FREE campground! Fairly easy to get to although I would recommend AWD, as the dirt road to the campsites is pretty bumpy. I had no problems in my ‘02 Lexus RX300 with AWD. The Arkansas River was steps from our campsite which had a small fire pit. The views are incredible, lots of trails and exploring around the river. I would definitely recommend and will be back!

Fairly easy access!

Semi secluded. I stayed in my car in site 10 the road is decently traveled. I have a crosstrek and it got in fine very beautiful in the morning. It’s also a tenth mile or so walk to the river!

Scenery scenery scenery

Beautiful setting with the river and the cliffs. Plenty to do if you like climbing, rafting, kayaking or fishing. Or just sitting and watching nature.

Great free spot with beautiful views right near Buena Vista

Awesome free BLM campground less than 10 minutes from Buena Vista. Sites are well-spaced and private, and the mountain views and sunsets are incredible. Fall asleep to the rushing sounds of the Arkansas River. Cell signal is spotty, but usable with a booster (or a Jetpack, which seems to work better than phones for picking up signal). This campground does not have toilets or water, so pack it in pack it out. The nearby town of BV has many useful amenities for full time travelers, including public WiFi, public restrooms, and coin-op showers. We've camped here multiple times, once with a fairly large group of 10+ vehicles. Great spot for an extended stay.
